Portugal dos Pequenitos Map
Photograph of the panel with the map of the world and the phrase ‘E se mais mundo háa, lá chega’, displayed at the entrance to the Portugal dos Pequenitos park in Coimbra.
The presence of this panel in the theme park is reminiscent of the façade of the ‘Pavilhão Portugueses pelo Mundo’, part of the 1940 Portuguese World Exhibition, an exhibition of imperialist and colonial exaltation by the Estado Novo regime.
The phrase ‘E se mais mundo háa lá chega’ is a famous stanza from Luís de Camões' ‘Os Lusíadas’, canto VII, stanza 14. In the context of Portugal dos Pequenitos, this phrase is used to represent the ‘spirit of exploration and expansion of the Portuguese Empire’, complemented by the map of the Portuguese world at the entrance to the park.
