Photograph of the entrance to the Portuguese World Pavilion at the Portuguese World Exhibition, held in Lisbon in 1940 and published in the Lisbon municipal magazine in 1944.

The entrance to the pavilion is made up of a huge mural featuring a map of the world and the phrase ‘E se mais mundo háa, lá chega’, a quote from the work ‘Os Lusíadas’, widely used by the Estado Novo in various contexts.

This mural is replicated in the equivalent of the Portuguese world pavilion, inside the Portugal dos Pequenitos theme park in Coimbra.

The figure in front of the entrance is the ‘Statue of Sovereignty’, a gigantic figure designed by Leopoldo de Almeida.
